The National Gerbil Society was begun in 1970 to promote gerbils and jirds as pets and show animals in the United Kingdom. The society maintains a highly informative website that contains information on caring for pet gerbils and jirds; breeding information; and show standards, regulations and locations. Membership is not required to use their site but does provide a quarterly journal and an invitation to participate in one of their shows in the UK for no charge.
