"Pet Tiger" Mauls Owner to Death

A man in Ontario Canada who at one time shared his home with two tigers, a lion and a cougar was mauled to death by his pet tiger on January 10, 2010. The second tiger, lion and cougar appear to have no longer been living at the home.

Norman Buwalda had fought with area residents and the town council to keep his exotic pets despite an earlier incident in 2004 where this same tiger injured a young boy visiting Buwalda who was photographing the large cat for a school project.

Not many details have been released about the incident. Family members found Buwalda and suspect he was feeding the large cat at the time of his death.

Public sentiment is offering sympathies to the family and praying for the release of the tiger into the wild, a proper zoological park or large exotic rescue facility.
