Cat Rescue Organizations

Cat Rescue OrganizationsA guide to finding the many great organizations that provide a refuge for cats and kittens needing homes. Please consider adopting one of these pets or volunteering at one of these rescue organizations.

It depends on what is in my house. If there was a cat, and my works, I would save the cat. A cat's life is more important than art.

~ Alberto Giacometti (when asked which of his creations he would rescue from a fire)

Catman-2
Most anyone who loves cats and lives in the Western North Carolina area has heard of Catman. A retired college biology professor, Dr. Harold Sims and his wife Kay, a retired social worker; began their efforts in 1996 and opened their current facility in Cullowhee to the public in 2004. The cats that can be found here do not live in small cages (the image shown is from the shelter and not a private residence). The cats enjoy the room to run and play or just lay in the Carolina sunshine waiting for a wonderful family to become their forever home.

This no-kill cat rescue organization is located in Kirkland, Washington. The organization was founded by a small group of friends in the early 1990s and now places approximately 1500 animals each year. As their site says - Each year MEOW is faced with the impossible and each and every day we recommit ourselves to something we truly believe in, the motto we adopted at our inception, "all nine lives are precious."
